This beautiful English corner cabinet-cum-shelf is crafted from warm mahogany mounted with ormolu and is constructed in a refined yet Classical manner.
Crafted from ormolu (gilt bronze) and mahogany, this encoignure—a piece of furniture designed to sit well within a corner—is both a cabinet and an étagère, or tiered shelf.
The piece is constructed from a quadrant shaped cabinet, raised by ormolu lion paw feet. The cabinet features twin curved doors, each containing a curvilinear lattice of ormolu backed by cream-coloured drapery. The doors, both of which are lockable, open to reveal a one-shelf cabinet.
Above the cabinet are two shelves, both quadrant shaped, with the lower shelf matching the size of the cabinet top and the upper shelf reduced in scale. The shelves are raised by three narrow ormolu supports, each support terminating in an ormolu pinecone finial. The shelves feature pierced ormolu galleries to their rears.
