Description

This rectangular Fabergé style frame contains a greyscale three-quarter length engraved portrait print of Tsar Alexander II, the engraving held within a teal mount and set behind bevelled glass. The frame itself is formed from orange-gold guilloché enamel bounded by ormolu (gilt bronze) borders and mounted with ormolu and precious stone motifs. The internal edge of the frame is ringed by an ormolu foliate beading, while the external edge is encompassed by a machined ormolu edge. The enamel of the frame is mounted throughout with ormolu swags, laurels, and other classical motifs, occasionally inset with red and white precious stones. The frame has an easel backing.

The frame is accompanied by a fitted case with a cushioned interior, which is monogrammed on the inside with a spurious mark for Fabergé in Cyrillic script.
