This table clock is crafted in the manner of Fabergé. The clock is formed of a circular body, the front surface of which is finished with beautiful white guilloché enamel and set with an extensive array of gold and precious stone mounts. The exterior edge of the clock is banded by a 14 karat rose gold frame, which is inset with a yellow gold foliate frieze. The surface of the clock is exceptionally rich in terms of its mounts: rose gold swags support yellow gold foliate drapes, all inset with red and white precious stones. The white guilloché enamel clock dial, inscribed with Arabic numeral hour marks, is encompassed by a circular band of white precious stones, which is in turn bounded by an intertwined gold acanthus leaf vine and a ribbon precious stones.
The clock is supported by a silver scrolled easel backing and is contained within a velvet and silk lined wooden box. The body of the clock is stamped with a variety of marks, including ‘56’, which designates 14k gold, and ‘88’, which signifies 916 grade silver—the only silver grade with which Fabergé worked. The clock dial, and the inside of the wooden box, are inscribed with spurious Fabergé marks.
