Fabergé style gold, gemstone, and enamel picture frame
Style of Fabergé (Russian, founded 1842)
£18,000
This beautiful picture frame is crafted from the finest of materials, including enamel, gold, and precious stones, in the manner of the famed maker Fabergé.
This wonderful picture frame is crafted in the manner of Fabergé. The frame, rectangular in shape with canted corners, is wrought from exquisite blue guilloché enamel encompassed by gold borders. The external border is cast with the Greek key pattern motif, while the interior border, which sits against the glass of the frame, is rendered to imitate a frieze of foliage.
The guilloché enamel of the frame is mounted throughout with gold motifs. To the top centre is mounted a pink guilloché enamel disk, encompassed by gold and a band of white gemstones, and mounted with a winged crown motif inset with white and purple precious stones. This disk is flanked by a pair of gold Theban Sphinxes. The other sides of the frame are mounted with foliate and other classicising motifs, wrought from gold and inset with precious stones in a manner like the mounts previously described. The frame holds, within a blue mount and behind bevelled glass, a black and white photograph of a seated female figure.
The frame is supported by an easel backing and is contained by a velvet-lined green wooden case. The inside of the top lid of the case is inscribed with a spurious Fabergé mark.
