This beautiful model is a stunning objet d’art. The study is after the ‘bleeding heart’ flower, whose heart-shaped flowers are said to symbolise unconditional love.
Set within a rock crystal base, which has been impressively carved to imitate a water-filled vase, the model comprises a double spray of flowering branches, with the blooms made from delicate pink rhodonite with pale white quartzite stamens. Also extending from the 18-karat gold stem are various nephrite leaves, carved to imitate the natural veins and textures.
The model is crafted in the style of the Russian jeweller, Peter Carl Fabergé (1846 -1920), renowned for his intricate luxury pieces. The original Fabergé model that this piece was crafted after was made in c.1900, and was given to Queen Mary of England in 1934. It can now be found in the Royal Collection Trust.
Intricate decorative objects such as these continue to be highly prized amongst collectors, and this model is a particularly fine example of the ever-fashionable Fabergé style.
