The sculpture depicts a rock crystal fountain which stands at the centre of a jasper bowl. The water in the bowl is crafted from silver and the reeds from silver-gilt. Seven rock crystal sparrows perch on the edge of the bowl. These birds have ruby eyes and beaks, and silver-gilt legs and feet. The rock crystal fountain issues silver water and is topped by two more rock crystal sparrows.
This model is designed in the style of the House of Fabergé, the important jewellery firm in Russia. Like Fabergé, this model employs only the finest materials in its craftsmanship.
