Fabergé style silver-gilt, enamel, and pearl picture frame
Style of Fabergé (Russian, founded 1842)
£12,000
This exquisite Fabergé style picture frame is crafted from the finest of materials, including guilloché enamel, silver-gilt, pearls, and precious stones.
This magnificent picture frame is crafted in the manner of Fabergé. The rectangular frame is wrought from exquisite azure blue guilloché enamel encompassed by silver-gilt borders. The exterior border is cast with a frieze of rosettes, while the interior circular border, which sits against the glass of the frame, is rendered to imitate a frieze of foliage and is inset with a sequence of pearls. Behind the glass, the frame contains a circular portrait of a young woman. Between the exterior border and the circular picture sits another rectangular frieze, also of silver-gilt and foliate in form. Four star-form elements, inset with precious stones, are mounted to the front, while the top of the frame is surmounted by a silver-gilt crown-and-ribbon crest.
The wooden-backed frame stands on two ball feet and is supported by a scrolled easel backing. The frame is accompanied by a velvet-lined wooden case, which is marked to the inside with a spurious Fabergé mark. The picture frame, too, is stamped with spurious Fabergé marks and is also marked with an authentic '84' stamp, which designates 87.5% silver.
