Vichi, Ferdinando (Italian, 1875-1945)

Ferdinando Vichi was a sculptor who was active in Florence in the late 19th and early 20th Century. While he produced sculptures that were inspired by ancient and Renaissance models, Vichi's great skill lay in his ability to create Romantic works.

In his Romantic artistic tendencies, Vichi was clearly influenced by the kind of work being produced in the Belle Epoque in Italy, particularly by the Bazzanti gallery artists, which included Cesare Lapini and Guglielmo Pugi, whom Vichi knew well. 

Vichi was well respected in his own time, both in his native Florence and abroad. By the end of the 19th Century, Vichi had recieved many local commissions, had an alabaster workshop named after him in Italy and had firmly established himself in the international art market.
