Questions about this piece?

This fine carriage clock is crafted from brass and cobalt blue enamel. The clock features a frame adorned in relief with a host of scrolling foliate forms: the entablature and the base of the case feature continuous friezes of cornucopias, acanthus leaves, and other foliage, while the uprights to each corner are similarly adorned. Strikingly, the relief decoration is enamelled, with deep blue enamel set into the wells surrounding the brass relief motifs. The sides of the clock feature bevelled glass panels, and the clock face—featuring a silvered chapter ring—is similarly adorned with enamelled foliate designs. The clock is surmounted by a hinged handle likewise finished with enamel, and is accompanied by its original leather travel case, which features a fitted hollow for the key.

The clock is marked both ‘CB’ and ‘FE’.
