This majestic clock was created by a French bronzier in the second half of the 19th Century. it is beautifully finished in gilt and patinated bronze, lending a distinction between different elements of the case.
The central clock case stands on four scrolling supports atop a gilt bronze base. The clock dial is situated to the upper centre of the case and features small enamel plaques with Roman Numerals in a circular formation. Two patinated bronze sculptural winged cherubs are shown either side of the dial with bird shown below. The case is surmounted by a decorative gilt bronze mount with acanthus leaf decoration.
The clock case is shaped and decorated in a style typifying that of the period of King Louis XV of France. It takes an undulating and curvaceous form and is imbued with C-shaped scrolls and rocaille formations throughout.
