This charming mantel clock is crafted in the style of Louis XV, also known as the Rococo style. The clock features a body wrought from ormolu that is inset with Sèvres style porcelain plaques. The ormolu body features a plinth-form clock case flanked by scrolled buttresses, all above a flat base raised by four feet. The ormolu throughout is richly detailed: scrolling rocailles abound, as do draped foliate swags, and the case is surmounted by an elaborate ormolu finial comprised of a laurel wreath and flaming torch. The parcel gilt porcelain plaques feature Rococo style painted scenes: the largest, central plaque portrays a courting couple in an idyllic landscape, while the other plaques depict assortments of musical instruments and the bounties of harvest. The case is inset with a circular porcelain dial adorned with gilt Roman numeral hour indices.
