This elegant three-piece clock set is crafted in the refined Neoclassical style and features a sculptural surmount of two reclining patinated bronze cherubs.
This fine three-piece clock set, crafted in the Neoclassical style from patinated and gilt bronze mounted white marble, is comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra.
The mantel clock features a shaped white marble plinth-form base raised on gilt bronze, or ormolu, toupie feet. The upper tier of the stepped case is profusely adorned with ormolu mounts: the case features a flared ormolu cornice above and a foliate moulded frieze below, while the faces throughout are framed with egg-and-dart moulded borders. The front of the case is divided into two by the centrally placed white enamel dial, with a marble-grounded cartouche on either side set with a pierced ormolu Neoclassical style mount. Below the dial, the case is mounted with ormolu flowers and foliate sprays. Most remarkably, the case is surmounted by a large patinated bronze sculptural group comprised of two reclining cherubs, one of whom sits beside an ormolu love bird. The figures of the cherubs are superbly cast and warmly finished.
The six-light candelabra are similarly formed and adorned. Each candelabrum features a white marble base mounted with ormolu Neoclassical style motifs. The stem of each candelabrum is modelled as a patinated bronze cherub, one of whom reads while the other holds a globe. Each culminates in an ormolu candelabrum head, which issues five scrolling light branches and is centred with a single branch topped with a removable flambeau finial.
