Made in France in the early 18th century, this table is a wonderful demonstration of Régence period furniture design.
The giltwood surface is decorated with carved acanthus leaves, shells and rinceau on a cross background. Side panels include rectangular and intricately carved decoration, mirroring the positioning and carving on the drawer visible to the front of the table.
The lockable, hinged top opens to reveal a green velvet-lined interior and a mirror attached to the underside of the tabletop. Further symmetrical carvings frame the mirror. The table stands on four cabriole legs, decorated in a similar manner to the rest of the furniture piece.
The Régence style was prominent in early 18th century France. Pieces manufactured in such style are characterised by intricate surface decoration, and graceful curves, making this table an exceptionally ample piece representative of the Régence style.
