This exceptional mantel clock, which is adorned with an elaborate sculptural surmount, is by one of the nineteenth-century’s greatest producers, Henry Dasson.

Description

This superb mantel clock by Dasson is modelled in the Napoleon III style. The clock features an off-centre ormolu clock drum containing a white enamel dial and surmounted by an ormolu cockerel and sculptor’s hammer. The plinth-form base below features moulded Neoclassical style detailing, such as rosettes and egg-and-dart friezes. To the side of the case is seated a patinated bronze putto, who holds a pen and ormolu some paper engraved with an image of a kneeling figure.

The clock features a twin train L. P. Japy striking drum movement with Brocot escapement and suspension. The dial is signed ‘Henry Dasson / A Paris’ and the reverse is signed and dated 'hry Dasson et Cie 1888'.
