Glass and velvet furniture suite in the style of Osler
Style of F & C Osler (British, founded 1807)
£45,000
This magnificent suite of furniture, comprising a settee and two armchairs, is crafted from luxurious velvet and finely cut glass in the manner of Osler.
This three-piece suite comprises a loveseat sized settee and a pair of armchairs. The suite is crafted in the manner of the English firm F. & C. Osler. The settee, large enough to seat a couple side by side, stands on four cut glass legs. The legs support a broadly proportioned seat and backrest, which are lavishly upholstered in a moss green velvet with a plush buttoning design. The seat of the settee is flanked by upholstered armrests, each armrest supported by five cut glass columns. The backrest features cut glass details all round, including a pair of ball finials and two curved cartouches surmounted with sunbeam motifs.
The pair of chairs is similarly decorated. Each chair stands on four cut glass legs, upon which the upholstered seat and backrest are set. The armrests of each chair are similarly upholstered and supported by five cut glass columns, while the back rail is surmounted by similar finials and sunbeam motifs.
The English glassmaking firm F. & C. Osler were responsible for making some of the very finest glassware. This settee and armchair suite, with extensive and intricately faceted cut glass elements, pays homage to the beautiful works the Osler firm created.
