The flower model is created using the finest of materials, including gold, silver, nephrite jade, rhodonite and quartzite, and is a true objet d'art - delicate, charming and expertly crafted.
The model depicts bleeding heart flowers, which are formed from the pink mineral rhodonite and the clear mineral quartzite. The flower buds are set onto gold stalks, from which they hang in a natural manner. Further down, the stalks are set with leaves made of nephrite jade, and the model is set into a silver-gilt planter.
The model by Faberge, after which this piece was crafted, was made around 1900 and acquired by Queen Mary of England in 1934. It can now be found in the Royal Collection Trust (RCIN no. 40502).
The present work would have been crafted in Russia and was retailed in the United States by the famous jeweler and maker of objets d'art, Tiffany & Co. It is marked to the underside 'Tiffany & Co / Makers / Sterling / 24036'.
