Description

This harp, by the preeminent maker Sébastian Érard, is designed in the Grecian style. The base of the harp is raised by four ormolu (gilt bronze) paw feet and is decorated with Classical motifs, such as anthemia and Grecian style masks, all accented in gilt. From the base rises a white gilt-fluted column, the column’s base decorated with stylised gilt moulded anthemia and its capital adorned with stylised Caryatid-type winged figures. The wooden frame is finished with brass and is inscribed with ‘Sebastian Erard / Maker / By Special Appointment / to his Majesty and the / Royal Family’.
