Description

Mounted on peach silk, and set within a gilt compositie frame, these expectional sets of framed Italian intaglios were made during the late nineteenth century, in a manner not dissimilar to that associated with the Grand Tour, whereby wealthy aristocratic Northern Europeans were fixated on bringing something home worthy of their travels to Rome, Greece, and the Mediterranean.

Each mold depicts scenes or figures from classical imagery and mythology. Some depict Roman gods, goddesses, or famous general and emperors. Others show exceptionally detailed miniature scenes from myth, with chariots and other objects clearly visible. They are set within a gilt surround, and several feature hand painted inventory numbers.

Ideal for those with a passion for the Classical world and this part of collecting history, they make for a beautiful set of wonderfully crafted and detailed miniatures.
