Description

Dating from the second half of the 19th century, and attributed to Francois Lepage, the inventor of Bois Durci, this set of twenty-five roundels consists of a superb selection of miniature portraits of famous historical figures. This fascinating material was particularly well-suited to fine, miniature and highly detailed portraits such as these, and this particular selection comprises figures such as Beethoven, Lincoln, Haydn, Dante and many others, including a larger piece depicting Mozart surrounded by putti and another unique piece, which commemorates the London exhibition 1862 and which is inscribed and possibly signed on the reverse.

The largest piece is 16.5cm in diameter, the smallest 11.5cm.
