Fechenbach, Hermann Israel (German/British, 1897-1986)

Hermann Israel Fechenbach (1897-1986) was a Jewish painter from Mergentheim in Germany.

From 1919 to 1926, Fechenbach studied at the academies of art in Stuttgart, Munich, Florence and Vienna, developing a distinctive artistic style that brought him international recognition. In 1939, with the start of the Second World War imminent, the painter emigrated to Buckinghamshire in England, where he continued to paint until his death in 1986. Today, the German Order Museum preserves the estate of Hermann Fechenbach, since he and his wife had no offspring and his siblings perished in Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
