Isfahan wool floral Persian carpet

This beautiful Persian rug was created in the Persian city of Isfahan, long known for its excellent carpet-making artisan tradition.

The rug is crafted from woven wool and features a rectangular central panel adorned with two symmetrical trees and a central stylised geometrical vase from which seven large ruby-coloured rosettes stand all contained within a mihrab-like arch above a background of scrolling foliage motifs.

The main panel is flanked by various concentric border friezes, including smaller ones featuring delicate flower motifs, and a larger one that displays a pattern based on the traditional Middle-Eastern pomegranate motif.

The use of colour adds great dimension to the decorative poetry of this carpet. The central panel’s cream-coloured background provides the piece with an ivory feel, fit for the serenity desired in a prayer rug.

The lower edge of the central panel features shades of pale blue and green, which emulate a river and its margin, providing a refreshing setting to the floral arrangement. The complex foliage motif ensuing from the vase and foliage is executed in the traditional colours of Isfahan carpets, including shades of red, deep-blue, green and various shades of pastels.
