This beautiful bowl, profusely adorned with beautiful cloisonné enamel, was crafted in China for an Islamic market, as indicated by the Arabic inscriptions upon its body.
The bowl is of traditional form, with a bulbous body raised by three feet and mounted with twin looped handles. The bowl is crafted from bronze, which is gilt on the feet, the rim and handles, and the two shaped cartouches to the front and reverse of the body. The surface of the bowl is profusely adorned with cloisonné enamel: scrolling arabesques and flowers of a variety of kinds are set above the turquoise ground. The twin cartouches contain embossed Thuluth Arabic script, indicating that the piece was produced for the Islamic market. It is signed underside with a mark in traditional Chinese script.
