The table is shaped from black marble and features a central micromosaic with six smaller micromosaics bordering it. The central micromosaic depicts 'The Birds of Pliny', an image popular among micromosaicists of the 18th and 19th Centuries, as it was based on a larger mosaic discovered at the villa of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The image is also known as the 'Capitoline Doves'. The image is surrounded with further small circular micromosaics portraying famous ancient Roman architectural sites, including the Forum and the Colosseum.
