The top Italian, mid-19th Century by F. Betti, Florence, in the manner of Antoni Cioci; the base French, 20th Century.
The rectangular porphyry top with lapis lazuli banding and inset to the centre with pietra dura depictions of vases, jugs, flowers, jewellery, shells and a butterfly, set on an ormolu base with blued-steel frieze and a joining scrolling stretcher to the lower section, the top with two circular maker's paper labels to the underside.
A similar table top can be seen in the Ugolini Collection in Florence, illustrated in Massinelli, A.M., The Gilbert Collection, Hardstones (2000) London, p. 110.
