This fine piece is an Italian marble and giltwood table, crafted in superb French Louis XIV style. The rectangular plan table is topped with veined red marble, which is set on a finely detailed and carved giltwood frame. Below the top, on the front of the table, the giltwood frame is carved in the form of a central oval shaped plaque surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves.
Its four legs are joined by an X-shaped stretcher. Made in the Belle Epoque period it recreates the splendour of the origins of French Golden Age furniture, combining it with late 19th century Italian craftsmanship and materials; it is a truly impressive and desirable piece.
