This twelve-person, 36-piece silver flatware service is comprised of pieces by different makers produced at different times. Two of the twelve forks carry the mark of Basilio Faffucci and are dated 1732; three carry the Rome assay mark and the date of 1732, but with no maker’s mark; one is also Roman, dated 1795; two are Roman and dated 1815, carrying illegible maker’s marks; and three are unmarked. The twelve spoons and twelve knives carry a similar variety of marks. The set is thus a composite one, formed of pieces produced at a variety of times. Nevertheless, the 36 pieces work together remarkably well, functioning as if one homogeneous service.
