Description

The model is cast from patinated bronze, and depicts an elephant being attacked by two tigers. The elephant is shown with its head and trunk pointing upwards, with its mouth open. One of the tigers is shown on the elephant's back, while the other is shown underneath the elephant's foot. The underside of the elephant is signed in Japanese. The model dates from the Meiji period in Japan at the end of the 19th Century, when many fine works of art and sculpture were produced.
