David, José-Maria (French, b. 1944)

José Maria David is a French sculptor born in 1944 in Loire Atlantique. David initially worked as an antiques diealer and then for the Greek shipping magnate Aristote Onassis before turning to sculpture in 1986.

David’s sculptures are inspired by animals only, and he is considered to be the master of the new animal school. David’s works are praised for their strength and dynamism, for his works mostly depict animals in motion.
