Description

This superb sculpture depicts a half life sized figure of a young girl. The girl, who is portrayed in the ideal nude, stands in contrapposto beside a tree trunk on a circular foot. She holds a bundle of fruit in her right hand, while in her left she holds aloft a sheaf of corn. A parrot, perched on her left shoulder, feeds on the corn. The girl's face, an expression of quiet repose, is cast slightly downwards, and her eyes gaze into the distance as if lost in thought.

The sculpture is masterfully carved, and the artist has rendered the cold marble into a variety of living textures: whether the girl’s smooth skin, the strands of her hair, or the feathery corn held by her hand.

The sculpture is signed to the base ‘Bouzadou’.
