This fine ceramic plaque is a charming example of trompe l’oeil in art. The plaque depicts a vibrantly coloured floral bouquet contained within a green vase, which is set onto the fictive ledge of an arched window. The window is painted in an accurately constructed perspectival space, which fools the eye into believing there is an element of three-dimensionality to the work. The ledge is strewn with fallen flowers, and the window opens to reveal a sunlit pastoral landscape. The work is painted in a cursory, fluid manner.
The plaque is contained within a moulded giltwood frame.
