This remarkable hardstone tree is notable for its large, twisting branches, which extend from a cloisonné enamel planter.
The tree comprises a central metal trunk, which has been treated with resin to evoke the rough textures of the bark. Metal branches extend from the trunk, wrapped with green thread. One branch extends out of the planter and to the surface below, conveying the abundance of the plant.
The branches are capped with a host of different hardstone blossoms and berries. Crafted from rose quartz and agate, the petals take on a pleasing variety of shapes. Each flower is centred by a stigma created from yellow beads, which nicely contrasts with the more pastel shades of the precious stones. Surrounding the flowers are several nephrite leaves, wonderfully carved in a lifelike manner.
The entire foliate composition sits within a planter that has been decorated using the complex cloisonné enamelling technique. Set on a bright blue ground, further flowers and leaves adorn the pot, interspersed amongst colourful swirling forms. The rim of the planter is gilded, adding a further touch of luxury to the piece.
This wonderful objet d’art is a true collectable, that could suit both a contemporary and a traditional interior.
