Large Chinese lacquered screen inset with cloisonné enamel panels

This superb Chinese folding screen is crafted from Chinese hardwood and cloisonné enamel. The screen features six hinged panels, each panel finished with a pierced apron below and a pierced crown above. The hardwood surfaces of the screen are profusely lacquered with green and red floral sprays, which form an intricate interwoven network that encompasses the inset cloisonné enamel plaques. Each panel of the screen is inset with four enamel plaques, and each cloisonné enamel plaque features a pale blue ground profusely adorned with a wonderful array of traditional Chinese objects and arrangements such as vases and incense burners, each motif executed in superb polychrome variegated enamels.

The screen is an excellent example of early 20th Century Chinese decorative art.
