Description

The wall mirror is composed of a rectangular body which is topped by an arch. The body of the item features a mirrored front, contained within a giltwood double border. The inner border is carved with chains of ovolo motifs, and the outer border is decorated with scrollwork and bellflowers. Giltwood carvings of masks within C-scroll frames, entwined with stylised flowers, decorates the corners of the mirror between the borders. The rectangular body is topped by an arch with a mirrored centre and giltwood frame. This frame is intricately carved with scrollwork, flower trails and stylised birds supporting cornucopias in their open beaks. The arch is surmounted by a carving of a classical mask wearing a crown of feathers, which is flanked by scrolled acanthus leaves.
