This fine porcelain plaque, an unusually large and impressive example, is painted with an Orientalist scene of a man standing beneath an Islamic arcade.
This impressively large porcelain plaque is finely painted with an Orientalist style scene. The plaque portrays an ornately dressed man leaning against a column of an Islamic style arcade. A large red brocaded curtain hangs beside him, its drapes and folds deftly rendered. The scene is complete with a variety of distinctively Islamic objects, such as a large incense burner behind and an octagonal Moorish style table to the man’s side.
The work is signed lower right, is incised to the reverse with a spurious KPM mark, and is contained within a carved giltwood frame.
