Description

This excellent Orientalist sculpture by Goldscheider is exemplary of his work in terracotta, both finely sculpted and vibrantly painted. It is stamped on the reverse 'Goldscheider / Reproduction Reservee,' and depicts a young boy sitting on a small angular base playing the flute.

The design is typical of Goldscheider's Orientalist work. Active in Austria from 1885 onwards, his foundry was one of the most influential and well-known manufacturies of works in terracotta and ceramics in the world, and this sculpture, with its high degree of realism in both figure, drapery, and tastefully painted is a superb example of his prolific output.
