Large Japanese Meiji period cloisonne enamel lidded vase
£14,000
This fantastic cloisonne enamel vase, featuring a striking image of a dragon, is a spectacular piece of craftsmanship from the late 19th Century in Japan.
The vase is decorated all over its ovoid body in cloisonne enamel, with depictions of flowers and foliage on a blue background. The front of the vase is centrally decorated with an Asian style dragon on a red background, while the back of the vase shows a mythical bird on a blue background. The flared neck and lid of the vase are both decorated with further cloisonne enamel floral and foliate motifs, and the lid is surmounted by a ball-shaped finial. The rim of the vase is mounted with a petal-form metal band.
