This large porcelain plaque depicts several figures at camp in a steppe-like environment. The figures are dressed in Orientalist garb—the Orientalist theme further accentuated by the inclusion of desert palm trees and eastern ornaments, including the vase in the lower right corner of the scene. The manner of painterly execution is fine and fluid, and the colour palette is bright and soft, the tones subdued by the lateness of the evening, as evidenced by the flushed colours of the sunset sky.
The plaque is signed lower right, is stamped to the reverse with a spurious KPM mark, and is contained within a fine giltwood frame.
