Description

Modelled by E.A. Leuteritz, this excellent centrepiece was made by Meissen in the late nineteenth century. In painted porcelain, the rockwork base is edged with moulded scrollwork, that rises to a shaft which features a moulded scrollwork cartouche on either side.

The vibrant and colourful piece is painted with a spray of flowers, and applied on the sides with further floral elements. The bowl is further surmounted by a two-handled, pierced, shaped quatrelobe basket, that is also applied with flowers and painted with flower sprays within gilt scrollwork cartouches. The base of this fine work, with an allegorical character, is applied with eight putti emblematic of the Seasons.

The piece is marked with the usual crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, and is also incised with the model number, 605., in impressed numerals.
