This fine clock is crafted entirely from ormolu. The clock features a rectangular plinth-form base raised by a shaped apron moulded with scrolling, foliate motifs. The top of the base is inset with a centrally placed circular silvered dial inscribed with Roman numeral hour indices. The dial is set within a naturalistically rendered rocky outcrop, garnished with flowers and other foliage, atop of which stands the most striking element of the clock: its sculptural surmount of a superbly rendered horse and its Arabic horseman. The sculptural group is a wonderful example of 19th Century French Orientalism.
