Description

This excellent piece is a large casket, made from ormolu and porcelain, and is executed in Rococo style. With guilloché ormolu bands, corner bands, which take the form of caryatid-like putti, the casket is adorned with a variety of cornucopias, floral motifs, and front and centre, a grotesque mask escutcheon.

Further ormolu elements adorn the cover, including twin-putti busts to the handle. The painted porcelain, which adorns the four sides of the body and of the cover, is decorated with small, delightful vignettes, showing couples in a gently suggested countryside setting. The porcelain is marked for KPM, and the interior is lined with rich red velvet. The gilding is in exceptional condition.
