Description

Modelled as a semi-nude female dancer with a snake, and signed 'Borsé', with Goldscheider foundry mark and numbered 24, this superlative bronze sculpture was made by the Austrian 19th century artist Friedrich Goldscheider (Austrian, 1845-1897).

A large and rare piece - rare as unlike the majority of his works, this is cast in bronze rather than sculpted in terracotta - it depicts a standing female figure, semi-draped, her feminine figure revealed as her gown slips off her shoulders, replaced by a snake that curls its way around her raised left hand and over her right shoulder. Beautifully sculpted and with a wonderful glow and finish, this fine sculpture is a beautiful Art Deco figurative bronze work.
