Description

This stunning silvered bronze model is the work of the French sculptor Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) for Susse Frères, the famous metalworking firm based in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th century. The model shows the Roman goddess of hunting, Diana, holding her bow and standing in mid-stride.

There are marks on the square base of the model for both Silvestre and Susse Freres. They read, respectively, 'Silvestre, cire perdue' and 'Susses Fes Edts Paris'. The base also bears the stamp of Susse Freres Paris.

Of an impressive size, the sculpture celebrates French decorative arts as well as Roman mythology, making it a superb addition to the home of someone interested in these topics.
