Description

Made in Austria, c.1910, this wonderful piece is a delightful Viennese bronze bird model, in the so-called cold-painted technique, and it is attributed to the workshop of Franz Xaver Bergman.

A well known and esteemed maker of antique bronze pieces, his work is generally divided between Orientalist, figurative, often erotic, and animal art, with the latter being perhaps the strongest part of his oeuvre.

As demonstrated by this work, his animalier works have a vibrant, quirky, characterful quality, full of personality and charmed, exectuted masterfully in the popular cold-painted bronze style.
