Crafted from the first silversmithing firm established in Lebanon after its independence, this silver-plate ice bucket is a fine example of the work of Habis.
This fine silver-plate ice bucket is by the Lebanese silversmith firm Habis, which was the first silversmith to be founded in Lebanon, based in Beirut, after the country’s independence in 1943. The firm was established at the request of the country’s first president, Bechara El Khoury. Initially, Habis produced sterling silver only, but by the 1960s the firm had diversified into producing goods in silver-plate.
The present bucket features a tapering, cylindrical body, slightly wider at the top than the bottom. The rim is finished with rope twist moulding, while the twin handles are formed from further wreaths of twisted rope.
