By Gallé, Émile (French, 1846-1904)
Émile Gallé is considered to be one of the finest forces in the French Art Nouveau movement, and this superb lamp encapsulates his individual style.
This superb Art Nouveau period lamp by Émile Gallé is crafted from overlaid, acid-etched, and wheel-carved glass. The lamp features a beige ground overlaid with pink-brown etched and carved decoration of floral sprays and other foliate motifs. The lamp has a domed shade supported by three brass brackets, above of an elegantly curved glass stem. The work is a remarkable demonstration of the Art Nouveau style with its penchant for floral motifs, and a tour de force of glassmaking, demonstrating a host of decorating techniques.
The shade and the base are signed ‘Gallé’.
