The enamel plaque depicts the half-length portrait of a young woman, seated before a landscape. She is depicted with her body almost in profile, and her head turned to face the viewer. The woman wears a light pink gown, fringed with white lace. She has her long brown hair partially tied up with yellow ribbon, while the rest of it falls down her back. In her hands, she holds a small lap dog, which appears to be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In the distance, to the left, tall poplar trees and the blue outlines of mountains are just visible. The backdrop behind the woman is filled with stormy grey clouds.
The plaque is displayed within an elaborately carved giltwood frame. This features borders of stylised acanthus and laurel leaves, and square corner panels carved with anchors. The top panel of the frame is topped by carved crinkled ribbon bow.
The back of the portrait is indistinctly signed and features an old label.
