By Escalier de Cristal, Paris, this remarkable Louis XV style antique table is intricately detailed in kingwood, tulipwood and parquetry, and features fine ormolu mounts. The circular green marble top is set within a stepped reeded surround, above a frieze inlaid with trellis centred by a bearded mask, on cabriole legs, each joined by a similar inlaid lower-tier, on acanthus-cast paw feet.
This fine table is typical of the output of the famed Parisian firm, during the second half of the 19th century. Established circa 1820 by Mrs Veuve Desarnaud at the Palais Royal in Paris, the firm was well known for producing exquisite objects made in the 18th century fashion. This table dates from after 1872 when the company was acquired by Emile Pannier. At that time the business expanded in manufacturing furniture, specialising in 18th century revival and Japanese styles.Â
It is stamped for Escalier de Paris, and also has the stamp 'Perthomier', possibly for the name of the individual maker.
