Description

Of violoné form surmounted by an ormolu figure of Father Time, this splendid tall Louis XV style timepiece was made in the late 19th century by Lenoir. The main enamel circular dial is signed ‘LENOIR / A Paris’, and is set above an ormolu appliqued motif of putti within clouds. The overall ormolu embellishment of the piece feautures stylised acanthus scrolls, frames, cartouches and lion-like masks, ending in ormolu mounted paw feet.

A heart shaped pane reveals the swing of the pendulum lower down, and the rich red-brown of the wood is carved in beautiful flowing curves throughout, accentuated and highlighted by tasteful and whimsical splashes of gilt-bronze ornamentation. An outstanding piece, this clock truly is a statement piece of exceptional taste and refinement.
