The kingwood commode is topped with a sheet of grey, veined serpentine marble with outset corners. Below the marble top runs a frieze-like arrangement of ormolu foliate motifs which disguises two drawers to the front. The front central doors of the commode are decorated with a large ormolu heraldic Roman Revival medallion. To either side of the front, the corners of the commode are formed as fluted wooden columns, and the two side edges curve inwards, featuring ormolu cartouches around central foliate motifs. Along the lower section of the commode runs an ormolu frieze decorated with a repeating leaf pattern.
The commode was made after a model by Guillaume Benneman (French, 1750-post 1811).
