This three-piece furniture suite is comprised of two armchairs and one canapé (sofa).
The giltwood armchairs stand on turned, tapering legs, with carved foliate and beaded ornament, on peg feet. Above the legs, the peg joints are decorated with carved rosettes, and the seat rails feature wavy and beaded carvings. The chairs’ turned and tapered arm supports are decorated with beading, fluting and foliage. The seats’ backs are composed of square giltwood frames, the lower corners of which are pierced, creating shield forms. These back frames feature carved foliage, beading, fluting and alternating ovolo and bead patterns. The top rails of the chairs are shaped and decorated with motifs, composed of laurel branches, paintbrushes and palettes, placed before lyres, and set against a gadrooned panel, edged with laurel, bay and oak leaves. Pointed finials surmount the rosette peg joints, found on the top corners of the back frames. The chairs have been upholstered in a royal blue fabric, which contrasts beautifully with their golden giltwood frames.
A canapé accompanies the two armchairs. Its carved giltwood frame and royal blue upholstery is identical to those of the armchairs, making for a stylistically uniform set.
